Anxiety in our changing world

Experiencing anxiety is a normal reaction to abnormal situations that you may currently be facing. Dramatic changes to our lifestyles, such as the affects of the pandemic and the cost of living crisis, may understandably be causing significant levels of distress.

I can help you to identify symptoms of anxiety and to understand that they are normal and are the body’s way of trying to protect you when the brain perceives danger. As the saying goes “knowledge is power” and I often find clients become less fearful of their feelings, as they understand why they occur and what triggers them.

Understanding anxiety also helps to reduce thoughts of not being able to cope, as you become more compassionate towards what your brain and body need in order to manage your feelings. This knowledge can be adapted to help children in understanding their feelings and helping them to feel safe again too.

We may also explore the idea of shifting your focus to what you can control by;

  • maintaining a routine
  • setting boundaries
  • developing a self-care plan
  • identifying positive aspects of current life
  • allowing yourself to feel emotions to process their meaning.
